Councillor Todd Carney – Mayor:
Moving into Mayoral Minutes.
I’d like to recognise the outstanding achievements of Penrith businesswoman Gina Field, founder of Nepean Regional Security. Nepean Regional Security was named Company of the Year at the Women Changing the World Awards held in London on 04/03/2025. This is a powerful international recognition for a Penrith business on the world stage. These global awards acknowledge and celebrate women who are taking action to inspire change, in ways both big and small.
Starting Nepean Regional Security from her home in 1998, Gina’s trademark determination and commitment have seen her build one of the most successful female-owned security companies in New South Wales—if not overall, male or female. Twenty-seven years later, Gina now manages a team of 47 professionals and a fleet of vehicles operating across Sydney. So, it is fitting that the award presented to Nepean Regional Security recognises exceptional companies changing the world for women and girls—reflecting Gina’s own resilience and innovation. Gina is one of the success stories of our fast-growing and dynamic city, and Nepean Regional Security is one of many businesses that have helped shape Penrith into the regionally significant city it is today.
On behalf of Penrith City Council, I congratulate Gina Field and Nepean Regional Security for this well-deserved award. Well done, Gina.
Councillor Ross Fowler OAM – Deputy Mayor:
Thank you very much, Mr Mayor. I share your thoughts and congratulations.
And it’s very nice to see Gina here in the chamber tonight to receive these accolades. Looking back at the history, I think it goes back quite a long way. During my time on Council, which spans a similar period to Gina’s time in business, I can recall—if memory serves—the very first contract she tendered for, providing security services at this facility. I believe there was a little bit of controversy around it at the time, but I won’t go into that.
What we have here is a great example of someone who shows passion for her business, but also compassion for the people she works with, the clients she serves, and the community as a whole. She’s not only dedicated to her company and the services it provides, but she’s also willing to lend her name and time to a number of causes that are significant to this city’s future. Gina is always prepared to speak to people and organisations, and to mentor other women—whether in security, business more broadly, or other professions. We’re very fortunate in Penrith City to have someone like Gina Field, and a business like Nepean Regional Security that provides services to the community and beyond. I wish her all the very best in the future.
And it’s lovely to see her husband here with her tonight, supporting her. Congratulations, Gina, and all the very best.
Councillor John Thain:
Thanks, Mr Mayor. I’d also like to offer my congratulations to Gina and acknowledge the work she’s done with NRS—how she’s grown it from a small company into one with international renown. I’d also like to thank Paul for the support he’s given Gina over the years, and acknowledge her team—because they are pretty special too. The people she’s employed have helped make that company a real standout in the local area.
Gina has become a figure of influence for a number of media outlets, which in turn promotes our city. She’s a leader in the security industry. I can’t recall the full name of the board—SLED, I believe—but she’s served on it for quite some time and has helped drive change there.
One thing about Gina: she never does anything by halves. If she commits to something, she gives it a real go—and most of the time, she succeeds. It’s probably driven her mad at times, the pace she’s had to work at—as I’ve seen on Facebook now and then, particularly when she’s had to submit tenders in record time—but ultimately she gets the job done. And as the Deputy Mayor said, she’s never shy in promoting our city and the people in it.
I’m truly thankful to have known Gina for a long time—not just professionally, but as a friend. I wish her all the best and hope her success continues long into the future.
Councillor Garion Thain:
Thank you, Mr Mayor. I’d like to echo the comments made by you, Deputy Mayor Fowler, and Councillor John Thain, and acknowledge the contribution Gina has made to Penrith. I’ve lived in Penrith my entire life, and it certainly feels like Gina has been a constant presence in our community.
I won’t reveal my age—but let’s just say I’m not very old at all! Gina is an incredibly hard worker and a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit that defines our city. There’s a sense here in Penrith that anyone can make a difference if they put in the effort and serve their community.
To be recognised on the world stage for that entrepreneurial drive is truly remarkable. It validates all the work Gina has poured into Nepean Regional Security and into our city. If you follow Gina on Instagram, like I do, you’ll know she’s always working, mentoring, and active at all hours—day or night. I honestly don’t know when she sleeps! But one thing’s for sure—we’ll keep seeing her, whether outside these chambers helping at one of Penrith’s great events, on our screens, or on our streets.
This award in London won’t be the last time Gina is recognised for her contributions to Penrith. It certainly wasn’t the first, and it won’t be the last.
Congratulations again, Gina.
Councillor Reece Nuttall:
Thank you, Mr Mayor, and congratulations to you, Gina, and to your husband Paul, for your unwavering commitment to Penrith and to its business community.
What really stands out about Gina is that she’s a terrific woman, a genuine leader, and an incredible advocate for women—not just in security, but in all walks of life. She lifts others up, leads by example, and always finds time to give back. I can only echo the sentiments already expressed by yourself, the Deputy Mayor, and both Councillor Thains. This award is a significant international recognition, but for us in Penrith, it means even more—because Gina is one of us.
Her story is our story. She exemplifies what’s possible when you believe in yourself, support others, and don’t let obstacles stand in your way. Gina has also served as President of the Penrith Chamber of Commerce, among many other excellent community organisations.
Gina, you’ve done Penrith proud, and we’re all cheering you on as you continue to lead and inspire—just by being exactly who you are. And as Councillor Thain said, who needs the Western Weekender or Penrith Press when you’ve got Gina Field’s Instagram?
If you want to know what’s happening in Penrith, just check her Facebook or Instagram. She’s an incredible woman and a true inspiration to young women—especially those wanting to start their own businesses or careers in security. We absolutely look forward to what’s next from you—because there’s no doubt this is far from the last we’ll hear from you.
Thank you, Mr Mayor.
Councillor Todd Carney – Mayor:
Gina, if you’d like, please come down and I’d be honoured to present you with a copy of the Mayoral Minute. And Paul, if you’d like to come down as well—you’re very welcome.
